PANAJI: Anshuman Agarwal set up a thrilling victory for Champs Goa in the final of Bambolim Beach Resort Cup 2022 at indoor stadium, Campal here today. They prevailed 3-2 over Mayur’s Spartans in the title-clash of the two-day corporate league (team championship) organised by the North Goa TT Council under the aegis of Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA).
Anshuman demolished Dheeraj Rai (3-0) in the pick of the best-of-five finals rubber, to put Champs Goa in the lead (2-1). In the veterans doubles, Champs Goa’s Oliver and Rohit went down 1-3 to Yusuf Sheikh and Mayur Sawkar and the finals was in the balance at 2 matches apiece. Anshuman then partnered Pradnya Caro in the decider to score another dominant victory over Mayur’s Spartans’ Dheeraj and Kiara Soares 3-0 in the mixed doubles contest and bag the title with the finals scoreline being 3-2 in the favour of Champs Goa.
Earlier, Swayam Chodankar had given Mayur’s Spartans a winning start with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over promising youngster Chandan Caro. Pradnya then thrashed Kiara 3-0 to restore parity (1-1).
Diya Enterprises clinched third place after a 3-2 playoff win against Estilo Legends, who finished fourth.
The winners were awarded Rs 25,000 while runners-up pocketed Rs 20,000. Rs 12,000 and Rs 8000 were presented to the third and fourth-placed teams respectively.
GTTA President, Vero Nunes and secretary Christopher Menezes were delighted with the response for the first of its kind corporate-style event in Goan table tennis, the idea behind this initiative being competitive exposure to the players ahead of the 2022-23 GTTA Ranking Season.
Meanwhile, Para-TT Nationals silver-medalist Lloyd Fernandes was felicitated on the occasion.
