BCCI WOMEN’S ONE-DAYERS TROPHY: GOA HOLD THEIR NERVE FOR CRUCIAL VICTORY OVER UTTAR PRADESH

PANAJI: Goa on Thursday, scored a crucial 3-wicket victory over Uttar Pradesh in Elite Group C to stay in the hunt for a quarter-finals berth in the BCCI senior women’s trophy in Jaipur.

Electing to bat on winning the toss, UP managed 151/9 in the face of some good bowling by the Goan girls. The chase started off on a wobbly note for Goa as they lost the top four wickets with just 31 runs on the board. They however recovered quickly, although losing wickets at regular intervals before overhauling the target, making 156/7 in 48.4 overs.

Captain Shikha Pandey top-scored with 35 runs to her name. Earlier she had also picked up a wicket giving away just 14 runs in 10 overs. Tejashwini Duragad (32 runs & 2 wickets) and Sanjula Naik (33 Not Out) were the chief architects of the Goan victory on the day.

Goa with 12 points, are now placed second in the group and will clash with leaders Andhra (16 points) in their last league match on Saturday.
