PANAJI: Goa suffered their first defeat in the ongoing BCCI senior women’s one-dayers, going down fighting to Maharashtra by 55 runs, in Jaipur on Tuesday.

Maharashtra won the toss and chose to bat. Riding on major contributions from A Patil (88 Not Out) and M Magre (47) among others, Maharashtra posted a total of 242/7. Goa’s Rupali Chavan took three wickets while Sunanda Yetrekar and Tejashwini Duragad picked up two wickets each.

No.  6 batter Tejashwini Duragad then came up with a stunning knock of 69 runs off 65 balls as Goa tried to put up a lower-order resurgence. Tejashwini got support from No. 8 batter Nikita Malik, who scored 35 runs off 61 balls, and the duo went on to stitch a 76-run partnership for the seventh wicket. However, once the stand was broken, Goa folded up for 187 runs in 45.2 overs.  Other notable contributions came from openers Vinavi Gurav (29) and Purvaja Verlekar (16).

P Garkhede (4/41) was the wrecker in chief for Maharashtra, while S Pokharkar and A Patil picked up two wickets apiece.

Goa, who will take on fourth-placed UP on Thursday, are now placed third in Elite Group C with eight points from three games same as Maharashtra, who however have a better run-rate and occupy second spot. Andhra with three wins on the trot, top the table with 12 points.
