BHAUSAHEB BANDODKAR MEMORIAL TROPHY FROM 3RD MAY, RS  8 LAKH PRIZE-MONEY FOR WINNERS

The Goa Football Association (GFA) announced the launch of the inaugural Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy, a new annual tournament that will be a major event in the Goan football calendar.

The tournament will begin on 3rd May  and culminate in the final on May 18. A total of 11 teams (including the qualifying event) will participate in the tournament. The main draw will have the top three teams from the Goa Pro League, two outstation teams – Mumbai City FC and Kerala Blasters; and three other Goa Pro League teams that will come through the qualifiers.

“The Bhausaheb Bandodkar Trophy will be the marquee event of this season,” stated GFA President Dr. Caitano Fernandes. “We are committed to Goan football, and this tournament is a testament to that commitment. We are excited to see the best teams from Goa and India compete for this prestigious trophy.”

The GFA endeavours to take the tournament to another level soon. “We are already working on the planning for second edition that will feature international teams,” Dr Caitano added

The chief guest at the launch ceremony was Swetika Sachan, (IAS) Sports Secretary, Government of Goa. Sports Authority of Goa Executive Director, Dr Geeta Nagvekar was also present.

The GFA also unveiled the tournament logo, trophy and winners’ cheque of Rs 8 lakh at the launch ceremony.

The tournament draw was also conducted, with the qualifiers and group stages set to take place from May 3 to May 18 (final). All matches will be played at Duler Stadium.

Qualifiers Draw:

May 3: GPL 4th placed team V GPL 5th placed team

May 4: GPL 9th placed team V GPL 7th placed team

May 5: GPL 6th placed team V GPL 8th placed team

Main Draw:

Group A: Q1 winners, GPL 2nd placed team, GPL winners, Mumbai City FC,

Group B: Q3 winners, GPL 3rd placed team, Q2 winners, Kerala Blasters.
