Churchill Brothers and FC Goa played out a 1-1 draw in the CAM Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium-Mapusa, on Tuesday.
By virtue of this result, Churchill Brothers moved to third position with 13 points from seven games, while FC Goa dropped to sixth position with 11 points.
Churchill Brothers took eighth-minute lead when a long ball from Meldon Silva from around the half-line found Lalkhawpuimawia at the edge of the box, and his perfect header beat the onrushing keeper as the ball rolled into the net to give the Red Machines an early lead.
Churchill Bros came close to scoring once again when Lalkkhawpuimawia set up Jobern Cardozo, but the youngster’s strike from an acute angle went past the post.
At the other end in the 16th minute, FC Goa came close to scoring but Churchill Bros keeper Subhajit Bhat came up with a fine save to deny the FC Goa striker Jovial Dias.
FC Goa scored in the 45th minute through Vasim Inamdar, but it was Jovial Dias who did the spadework. Jovial, on receiving a pass at the edge of the box, drew the keeper towards him and then played a square pass to Vasim, who placed the ball into the net, 1-1.
In another match at Nagoa ground, Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Panjim Footballers 2-0. Lloyd Cardozo (45’) and Rohan Rodrigues (8) scored in the first half.
Sporting Clube de Goa moved up the table to fourth position with 12 points from six matches, while Panjim Footballers are in eighth spot.
