Sesa Football Academy scored a comfortable win over Panjim Footballers in the CAM Goa Football Association Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Thursday. Kunal Salgaonkar and Clencio Pinto scored a goal each.
Sesa FA moved to sixth position with eight points after five games while Panjim Footballers are in seventh position with eight points but have played a game more than the academy side.
Sesa FA had many chances throughout the game, however, they were either denied by brilliant goalkeeping by Panjim’s Preston Rego or the goalpost.
After much probing, Sesa FA broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Shridhartnath Gawas sent in a dangerous ball in the area, where Kunal Salgaonkar brilliantly placed the ball over the keeper into the goal to give his side the much deserving lead.
Sesa had many more chances created where Aryan Salunke saw one of his few attempts which beat the keeper, being denied by the crossbar.
Later, Aman Rajbhar had an attempt on goal, where Panjim’s Preston Rego was equal to the task diving full stretch to his left, pushing it for a corner.
Sesa FA’s Clencio Pinto, who was introduced in the game in the 46th minute ensured a goal to his name scoring in the 88th minute to seal full points for his team. A long ball over the Panjim last line, saw Clencio getting the better of Akash Banavalikar. Clencio controlled the ball and placed it past Preston, who couldn’t do much this time to save his team.
Over at Nagoa ground, Churchill Brothers FC Goa scored a massive 6-1 win over Guardian Angel Sports Club.
Lalkhawpuimawia aka Mapuia scored quadruple (64’, 65’, 70, 90+3’) for the Red Machines while Jobern Cardozo and Geroge D’Souza netted a goal each for the winning side. Joywin Costa scored the consolation for Guardian Angel SC.
By virtue of this win, Churchill Brothers go top of the table. Despite grabbing 12 from six matches, the Red Machines who are on par with Dempo SC on points have a better goal difference (+10) to Dempo’s (+7). Meanwhile, Guardian Angel SC are rooted at the bottom and are yet to open their account, having played seven games.
The Curchorem side has conceded 31 goals so far in the last seven games with an average of 4.43 goals per game. The most in the league so far. In the seven games they have played so far, they have conceded 5+ goals on four occasions, including in their last four games.
The first half score was 1-1 where Churchill’s Jobern Cardozo’s 44th minute lead was cancelled by Joywin Costa in the added time. Lalkhawpuimawia who came on as a second half substitute in place of Pushkar Prabhu made a huge impact for the winners and he was rightly named the player of the match.
