Along with renewable energy, new sources of energy emerging from research and development initiatives hold the key to sustainable future. As such, ethanol is one amongst the new-age green fuel component set to play an integral role in India’s progress, via Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP) initiated by the Government of India to promote cleaner fuels and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Goa is set to be a base of an Ethanol Plant, a 300 KLPD Grain-Based Ethanol Plant of Centreal Biofuels Limited, at Navelim Industrial Area. The ethanol produced, will be supplied to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) as part of the Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP).

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who graced the Foundation Stone laying ceremony, emphasised on the gains from the Zero-Waste initiative, stating: “The Plant shall create substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities for local residents. It will support Agriculture & farmers as grains will be procured directly from local farmers, thereby enhancing farm incomes and contributing to the rural economy. It is a Zero-Waste Initiative: By-products such as distillers grains will be repurposed as nutritious animal feed, reinforcing sustainable and environmentally responsible industrial practices.
“I commend Centreal Biofuels for playing a proactive role in the socio-economic development of Goa through industrial investment, employment generation, rural upliftment, and environmental stewardship.”
