CHIEF MINISTER DR PRAMOD SAWANT INVITES NATIONAL SCHOOL OF DRAMA TO OPEN ACADEMY AT SANQUELIM

Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday, inaugurated the world’s largest theatre festival  ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’  International Theatre Festival of India, organised by the National School of Drama in collaboration with Directorate of Art & Culture, Goa, at Kala Academy in Panaji.

Secretary for Art & Culture, Suneel Anchipaka, IAS; Director of Art and Culture,  Sagun Velip; Chittaranjan Tripathy, Director of National School of Drama; and others were present on the occasion.

In his address, Dr Sawant hailed the Goans’ love for theatre and also presented an open invitation to the Director of  National School of Drama to start a NSD theatre academy in Goa with the Chief Minister offering government support and the theatre facility in Sanquelim for this purpose.

The four-day festival will feature four plays which will be performed at Kala Academy, with the play ‘Naagmandal’, written by Girish Karnad, being the opening play.

Fondly called ‘Bharangam’, BRM is the world’s largest theatre festival. BRM 2025 is being held under the theme ‘Ek Rang, Shreshth Rang’ (One Expression, Supreme Creation). Noted actor and NSD alumnus Rajpal Yadav is the Rang Doot (Festival Ambassador) for this year.

BRM 2025, which spans a period of 20 days, from January 28, 2025 to February 16, 2025, will feature more than 200 unique productions from nine different countries apart from India, showcased across 11 locations in India and two abroad, which are Kathmandu and Colombo. Alongside the festival’s epicenter in Delhi, the locations in India include Goa, Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bathinda, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Gorakhpur, Jaipur, Khairagarh and Ranchi. The international theatre groups participating in the festival are hailing from Russia, Italy, Germany, Norway, Czech Republic, Nepal, Taiwan, Spain, and Sri Lanka.

Bharat Rang Mahotsav coincides with the 65th Anniversary of the NSD, and the 60th Anniversary of the NSD Repertory Company. To commemorate these milestones, the Repertory Company is celebrating the Rang Shashthi theatre festival series, staging some of its most popular plays on various platforms across the nation. The Company will also present its productions during BRM 2025 in locations such as Colombo, Kathmandu, Bengaluru, and Goa.
