Indian Coast Guard, Goa, organised a series of activities under its various units in the State to celebrate the 78th Independence Day on Thursday, August 15.
Marking the day, the Coast Guard conducted a Tiranga Walkathon of its personnel, members of the Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA), DSCs and their family members. The walkathon was flagged off by Deepika Bhati, President of CGWWA Goa.
Commemorating the day, the Coast Guard hoisted the national flags at Vengurla Rock and off the Goa coast. It also conducted a number of activities as a part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, including conducting an awareness session at schools, various competitions for students, bike rally and distribution of national flags to the students and fishermen. The fisherfolks also participated enthusiastically in the event.
As part of the collective effort to evoke a festive fervor, the Coast Guard ships were also decorated with the tricolour.
In tune with Government of India ‘s call to celebrate the 78th Independence Day by hoisting the national flags at every household, the Coast Guard hoisted the national flags in various islands, resident buildings, and office buildings. The initiatives were taken with a motto of spreading the feelings of nationalism across the nation, especially the coastal states and also to develop a connection with the general community.
As the fourth largest Coast Guard in the world, Indian Coast Guard has played a significant role in securing the Indian coasts.
