Goa Waste Management Corporation’s Common Bio-medical Waste Treatment Facility has completed one year of operations, at Kundaim Industrial Estate. With a total treatment capacity of 28 tonnes per day for the State of Goa, ‘Biotic’ has treated 1938 tonnes up till now.
Biotic has installed a state-of-the-art facility with Rotary Incinerator with a Dry Air Pollution Control System. The facility has been presented on a PPP mode and is said to be the first of its kind in the country. The concessionaire has also installed and setup Autoclave, Boiler, shredder, ETP, APCD, Chimney, Plastic Recycling plant to reduce/ recycle the treated plastic scrap and other machinery that are required for treatment of Bio-Medical Waste.
The Project, covers all Healthcare Facilities in the state. A fleet of specially designed vehicles collect waste and transport to the treatment facility for treatment and disposal.
Goa generates over 100 tonnes of Bio-medical Waste per month via over 1263 private and government hospitals in the state. The plant can also treat domestic sanitary waste and diapers. Municipalities and panchayats should collect this segregated waste and send it to this common facility for its treatment and disposal.
