Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has revealed that E-Waste Policy has been approved, reaffirming the state’s commitment to sustainable waste management practices. A notable achievement highlighted during the Goa Waste Management Corporation meeting was the revenue of Rs. 38,56,515 earned by GWMC through the auction of vehicles and metal waste.

Revenue Minister, Babush Monserrate and the Board Members of GWMC were present for the meeting at Mahalaxmi, Altinho-Panaji.

The Board also resolved to hand over 5,000 square metres of land, along with two existing sheds at Kakoda IDC in South Goa; previously utilised by GWMC as a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to the Goa Handicraft, Rural and Small-Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd.

GWMC has also developed a Massive Online Open Courseware (MOOC) aiming to train various stakeholders in Goa and India in the field of waste management.

Additionally, the Corporation decided to float new tenders for the collection, transportation, and segregation of solid waste, including non-biodegradable and dry waste. Approval was also granted for allocating land to GAIL for the establishment of a 150 tons per day wet waste processing plant, further enhancing waste management infrastructure in the State.

“Goa remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening its waste management systems. The Government of Goa is proactively adopting advanced technologies, modern equipment, and innovative systems to ensure sustainable and efficient waste management across the State,” emphasised the Chief Minister.
