PANAJI: Educators from leading colleges of Goa and Goa State Innovation Council came together recently at Goa Startup Conclave & Entrepreneurship Summit: Antha Prerna 2021 in a panel discussion on ‘Promoting Innovation Culture and Entrepreneurship Mindset at Academic Institutions’. Associate Professor & Head of Computer Engineering Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE)-Goa, Dr Gaurang Patkar  was one of the panellist.

An international award-winning innovator himself, Dr Gaurang asserted that the steps taken by DBCE; are working towards building innovative culture and entrepreneurship mindset. He revealed that the Fatorda-based college has setup Entrepreneurship-Cell (ECel), Institute Innovation Council (IIC), National Innovation Start-up  policy (NISP) and specialised audit course on Entrepreneurship for students.

“Through, these initiatives, students will get better idea of how business is conducted in real life. They will get an exposure to live problems and how to go about solving them. E-cell not only helps students who want to be entrepreneurs but also other students as life lessons of the real world are taught through audit course,” Dr Gaurang told www.livenewsgoa.com.

Dr Gaurang also said that evidently, innovation is the key to the growth and progress of an organisation. “It is true that the organisations that do not innovate effectively, may be destroyed by those who do. In fact, innovation is linked to performance and growth through improvements in efficiency, productivity, quality, competitive positioning and market share, etc.”

“Normally the unspoken goal of innovation is to solve a problem.  We know that one of the basic objectives of the technical education is also to find solutions to various types of problems in the society. For that purpose, it becomes imperative to create a culture of innovation in the technical institutes,” he added.

Dr Gaurang is a gold medal winner at the 6th International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN 2021), and recipient of the Macao Innovation and Invention Association Award for ‘Buttery Pea Flower Petal Wine & its Method of Production.’
