DAIVADNYA CARROM TOURNAMENT 2022: ANAY RAIKAR, SHILPA VERLEKAR & GUIRESH BANDODKAR EMERGE CHAMPIONS

PANAJI: Anay Raikar, Shilpa Verlekar and Guiresh Bandodkar excelled in various categories at the 2nd Daivadnya Carrom Tournament 2022, organised by Akhil Gomantakiya Daivadnya Brahmin Youth Association (AGDBYA) and Ponda Daivadnya Brahman Samaj; supported by Goa Carrom Association, on Sunday (24th July) at Daivadnya Hall, Ponda.

A total of 118 entrants contested across the three categories – Men (15-49 years), Women (15 & above) and Veterans (50 & above).

Anay Raikar topped the Men’s 15-49 years category while Rahul Lotlikar finished runner-up. Nilesh Shirokdar & Aryan Raikar made it to the semi-finals.

In the Women’s 15 & above category, Shilpa Verlekar reigned supreme while Deepa Anvekar finished second-best. Kalpita Lotlikar & Rupali Haldankar were the semi-finalists.

The Veterans 50 & above category saw Guiresh Bandodkar clinch the winner’s title while Pradeep Vernekar was the runner-up. Shyam Raikar & Gurudatta Raikar were the semi-finalists.

International Fashion Designer, Hema Nagvenkar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners. Sneha Kadnekar, President-Ponda Daivadnya Mahila Mandal, Deepak Lotlikar, President-Ponda Daivadnya Samaj, Dilip Sawant, Chief Referee, Goa Carrom Association and Mr. Prashil Salkar (President-AGDBYA) also presented the prizes.

Hema, CEO for Goa Couture Fashion week and founder member of Tito’s Foundation, thanked the organisers for putting together this impressive event. She also added that such kind of events enable local players to showcase their skills and talents, contributing to youth’s progress.

Prashil Salkar, President-AGDBYA, in his speech quoted that AGDBYA – founded in 2009, always strives to bring the community together by organising various activities such as Health-camps, Career-guidance camps, Sports events and AGDBYA also lends helping hand to our needy students by giving books and other educational aid.

Tanya Shirodkar anchored the prize-distribution ceremony. AGDBYA secretary Rohit Vernekar delivered the Vote of Thanks. The entire event was conducted with the support of AGDBYA volunteers, states a press release.
