DIRECTORATE OF SKILL DEVELOPMENT & ENTREPRENEURSHIP HOLDS WORKSHOP TO SENSITISE STAFF ON PwDs RIGHTS, ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSION

Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with the Office of State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, organised a workshop on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Accessibility and Inclusion; at the Farmagudi Government Industrial Training Institute.

The event was aimed at sensitising the staff of the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on accessibility and inclusion.

The expert speakers’ lineup comprised Vishant Nagvekar, RA at Forests Department; Mahadev Sawant, LDC at Goa Medical College; and Prasad Joshi, LDC at Goa University; all members of the Advisory Committee for the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities; and Jamila Haaziq, an expert in etiquette and promoting inclusion, empathy and respect towards Persons with Disabilities, graced the occasion as resource person. Muskan Shaik provided the Sign Language Interpretation services.

The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from around 65 staff members of the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Government Industrial Training Institutes from across Goa. They included Principals, Group Instructors, Vocational Instructors, and other staff. Akshay Shirwaikar, Assistant Director/Principal, welcomed the resource persons and participants.

Notably, this workshop was conducted in accordance with Section 39 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has set a commendable example by being the first Government Department to initiate such an awareness campaign. Other Government Departments are encouraged to follow suit and adhere to the provisions of the Act.
