Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant presented the ‘Vashistha Guru Puraskar 2022-23’ to eight teachers, out of which six are women, for their exemplary work in the field of education.
The State-level 62nd Teachers Day Celebration function was organised by the Directorate of Education at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, on Tuesday. Secretary Education, Prasad Lolayekar, IAS, Director Education, Shailesh Zingde, Director, SCERT Goa, Dr. Shambhu S. Ghadi were also present.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the reforms like introduction of Coding and Robotics at Secondary level and other various initiatives implemented via tieups or MoUs in the state; with the results now being seen as a state Robotics team is set to participate at a global event next month. He also announced that a student/teacher monitoring system ‘Vidya Samiksha Kendra’ will be set up soon.
Dr Sawant underlined the role of teachers more than the parents in guiding the students towards a career choice. “The teachers should first study various career options that are available and advise the students accordingly by analysing their capacities. Talking about the skilling initiative, we have opened the door towards Hospitality sector via ITI,” stated the CM.
Dr Sawant also praised the selection committee for selecting the right teachers for the award. He also appealed to teachers who could not make the cut, not to feel demoralised and to apply again next year. The CM also reflected on the lesser number of teachers staking their claim for the National Award while urging them to apply in a bigger number.

Harshita Harishchandra Naik (Govt Primary Scool-Parcem), Soniya Sanjay Mangaonkar (Govt Primary School, Margao).
Secondary school category: Premanand Kumu Naik (Narayan Zantye School for Special Education-Bicholim), Antonet De Sousa (OL of Rosary HS-Dona Paula), Umesha D Sawal (Govt HS-Fatorpa).
Headmaster category: Nita Ganapati Salunke (L D Samant Memorial High School, Porvorim,); Suchitra Rajeev Desai (Popular High School, Margao)
Higher secondary category: Datta Chandrakant Parab (Shree Shantadurga HSS, Pirna-Bardez).
Meanwhile, Goa State Higher Education Council and Directorate of Education also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Satkaam foundation.
