One of Werner Herzog’s best known films, this epic drama is partly based on true accounts. Set in the 16th century, Klaus Kinski plays the lead role of Aguirre, who leads a bunch of conquistadores down the Amazon River in the hunt for the city of gold, El Dorado. The film was arduously shot in the Peruvian rainforest and on the Amazon River. It often finds itself in the “top ten” lists of greatest films of all time.
