One of Goa’s brightest international sports star and prodigious squash talent Yash Fadte seems set to pump in fresh impetus into his pursuit of becoming an Olympian, after getting the financial support from Government of Goa for the first time.
The 24-year-old Yash, who has been winning international championships right from his under-13 days, had been shockingly ignored for the state government financial incentives in the past despite being promised due support.
Yash had recently delivered a talk at a club in Miramar and mentioned about his off-court challenges where his family was the major support so that he could focus on his preparations towards the goal of making it to the India team for upcoming LA 2028 Olympics.
But those worrisome days are behind the Vasco-based squash ace as a fresh chapter has been initiated with the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announcing on his social media that he is “pleased to meet and hand over the Excellence in Sports Award along with a financial assistance of ₹12.50 lakh to Goa’s ace squash player Yash Fadte’s family, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and exceptional contribution to Indian squash. Assured him of additional special financial support towards his preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.”
The Chief Minister also hailed Yash’s career, saying: “Yash Fadte has brought immense pride to Goa and the nation through his remarkable performances, including winning the Barcelona Global Squash Tour 1 in Spain and earning the prestigious Skillman Award in the United States. His dedication, discipline, and pursuit of excellence continue to inspire aspiring sportspersons across Goa.
“Our Government remains committed to nurturing sporting talent and providing every deserving athlete with the support they need to excel on the global stage, as we continue building a Viksit Goa through excellence in sports.”
The Government of Goa with its endorsement of Yash Fadte, has now allayed the doubts in people’s mind that only genuine sports talent is not enough to get financial assistance.
