Goa has been allotted the hosting rights for Chess World Cup 2025.
From October 30 to November 27, 2025, the world’s top players will gather on India’s west coast for one of the most exciting chess events.
Every round is win-or-go-home for a total of 206 players in the 8-round knockout format, making the World Cup one of the most dramatic tournaments on the calendar. Top three finishers will qualify for the 2026 Candidates Tournament.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his joy on X, stating: “India is delighted to be hosting the prestigious FIDE World Cup 2025 and that too after over two decades. Chess is gaining popularity among our youth. I am sure this tournament will witness thrilling matches and showcase the brilliance of top players from around the world.”
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, in his reaction to another global sports event adding to Goa’s growing reputation as a sports tourism destination, stated: “It’s a proud moment for Goa that the State would be hosting the prestigious FIDE World Cup 2025. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Goa looks forward to welcoming the world’s finest chess players and fans for this historic sporting event.”
