The recently-inaugurated Automated Irrigation System for agricultural land at V.P. Surla, is expected to bring approximately 45 hectares of land under irrigation, revealed Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
The Automated Irrigation System is the first-of-its-kind community irrigation project in the state and consolidates the collective vision of a Swayampurna, Viksit Goa.
“This initiative will revive and strengthen agricultural activities in the region by bringing approximately 45 hectares of land under irrigation, ensuring optimal water utilization through modern scientific methods,” expressed Dr Sawant with confidence.
To manage and operate the system efficiently, the village farmers have formed a Water User Association under the name Dergun Farmer Club, Surla, Goa, with two more clubs being established in Kadchal and Surla.
“The project will provide direct financial benefits, including a 50% reduction in labour costs, enhanced productivity, optimized water usage, and lower input costs, ultimately improving farmers’ profitability,” emphasised Dr Sawant.
