PANAJI: Sesa Football Academy (SFA) commemorated India’s 75th Independence Day with engaging activities where Indian football legends Brahmanand Shankhwalkar and Nicholas Pereira interacted with Sesa FA players, coaches, support staff and football enthusiasts from local community; informed a press release.
Speaking about the initiative, president of Vedanta Sports, Annanya Agarwal said: “On this historic occasion of 75th year of Indian Independence, I salute our great freedom fighters and brave soldiers for their selfless sacrifices for the nation. At Vedanta Sports, we believe that Indian youth has massive potential in sports. Our aim is to nurture their talent at grassroots level, and empower them to lead the success journey of Indian sports and bring laurels for the nation.”
Arjuna Awardee and former India goalkeeper, Brahmanand Shankhwalkar said: “I appreciate SFA for organising such enriching engagement session with the youth from community around. It is great to interact and play with young enthusiastic footballers. I applaud Vedanta’s SFA for driving the football development programme in the state for more than two decades, which has contributed immensely to Indian football.”
A friendly 8-a-side football match was organised on the occasion, between SFA coaches/support staff team and Sirsaim Sports & Welfare Centre team at Sesa FA Sirsaim football ground. SFA coaches/ support staff team prevailed 5-3.
All participants from local community appreciated Sesa FA for organising the programme, which provided them an opportunity to interact and play with former India captain Brahmanand and ex-India defender Nicholas.
