PANAJI: FC Goa went on a rampage handing a 7-0 thrashing to Goa United SA in GFA Vedanta Women’s League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Sunday. This was the FC Goa women’s third win in four games in the league, taking their points tally to 10.

Two strikes from Stessi Cardozo helped the Gaurs get to halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead before the girls upped the ante in the second half to cruise home to three comfortable points.

In a game that saw the Gaurs dominate from the go, Sugitesh Mandrekar’s girls created chances by the handful and only a lack of finishing prevented them from taking the goal tally to double digits in the game.

The Gaurs were off to a quick start with Stessi Cardozo scoring in the 12th minute. A ball over the top saw the forward latch on to it thanks to her pace before delivering a clinical finish from an angle.

The forward would again be on the mark in the 30th minute. Good work on the left flank saw FC Goa get behind the high defensive line that the opponents were playing. And although Stessi missed her first opportunity when the ball was squared onto her path, she didn’t make the same mistake when it was presented to her the second time – this time from the right.

Stessi continued to leave her mark on the proceedings following half-time, wrapping up her hat-trick in the 51st minute – this time with a clinical first-time effort on the volley.

Joizima Fernandes got on to the action soon in a second half that saw the game being played exclusively in Goa United’s half. Her strike from a corner in the 74th minute made it 4-0 in favour of FC Goa.

Seven minutes later she broke through the extremely high backline to make it 5-0. The last two goals came in a similar fashion as first Stessi (in the 89th minute) and then Sujata Shetty (in the 93rd minute) went one on one with the keeper and got the better of her to round off the rout.
