GLOWING WAVES AT BETALBATIM BEACH IN GOA: KNOW THE REASON

0

PANAJI: Betalbatim beach is witnessing a scientific phenomenon called ‘bioluminescence’ these days. Due to the presence of ‘fluorescent microorganisms or phytoplankton’ in the water, waves at the South Goan beach ‘glow’ as darkness sets in.
Such a sighting can happen at any beach depending on the  bloom of the organism, say Ocean science experts.
It is a natural phenomenon and the effect is dependent on the organism. Some episodes of blooms in the oceans have, however, been reported as harmful in the past.
