GOA BADMINTON ASSOCIATION: 200 SHUTTLERS IN FRAY AS RANKING SEASON COMMENCES ON SATURDAY

PANAJI: More than 200 sub-junior and junior badminton players from across Goa, will battle it out as the Goa Badminton Association’s (GBA) Ranking Tournament season kick-starts at Indoor stadium, Campal on Saturday, October 30.

Organised by Sunlite Sports and Cultural Club in collaboration with the GBA, the two-day event will be held in the categories of Under-13, 15, 17 and 19 in singles, doubles and mixed doubles for boys and girls.

Harsh Mane, Yash Desai, Tanushri Shadani, Aryaman Saraf, Chetan Magdum, Jiya Kamat, Sriya Saraf, Soumya Deshpande, Yash Halarnkar, Ayaan Shaikh and Sarvadnya Khandeparkar are some of the top players, who will be seen in action in the two-day event which concludes on October 31.

“Though many non-ranking tournaments and League events were held earlier this season, players were eagerly awaiting for the ranking tournaments to start and it’s nice that Sunlite Sports and Cultural club has come forward to organise this event for the sub-junior and junior age-groups. There will be three ranking tournaments this season in each of the categories of sub-juniors, juniors and seniors and we have planned professional league tournaments also along with our affiliated clubs. There are two or three National-level events that are also scheduled and players have been training hard to participate in ranking tournaments and qualify for the Nationals,” stated GBA Secretary, Sandeep Heble.

The tournament will award a total prizemoney of Rs 1 lakh. Rupchandra Humaraskar (President), Arnold Rodrigues (Secretary), Bhushan Vernekar (Treasurer), Govind Navelkar, Deelip Halarnkar, Marina Albuquerque (co-ordinators), Shailesh Dias and Balchandra Phadte are part of the organising team along with Vinayak Kamat (Technical Advisor) and Anar Singbal.(Referee).
