PANAJI: The Para-Badminton Committee of Goa Badminton Association, organised their first tournament for the 2022-23 season at Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim-South Goa. Events were held in two categories – Standing and Wheelchair.
Alex Albuquerque and Raju Magdum emerged winner and runner-up respectively in the Standing category. Gopal Naik and Sachin Gad finished joint-third. In the Wheelchair category, Stany D Souza bagged the top position, Moises Rodrigues finished second while Sayed Mosik Mauli came up with a third place finish.
Vishant Nagvekar, Mukesh Chaudhary and Ruki Ahmed were the consolation prize winners.
Goa Badminton Association secretary, Sandeep Heble elaborated on the plans for the season that include regular tournaments and camps, besides practice sessions for para-players.
“At least 3 tournaments will be planned from October to December and Para-players will be prepared to participate in the Para-Nationals. Badminton is hugely popular and there is immense interest among Para-players who we found very keen and enthusiastic during the Para-Badminton Tournament which was held recently,” stated Heble.
