GOA DOORDARSHAN’S ‘FAMOUSLY FOUND @ 15’ DOCUMENTARY PAYS GLOWING TRIBUTE TO STERLING CAREER OF BRAHMANAND SHANKHWALKAR

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant released the documentary ‘Famously Found @ 15’ illustrating a legendary career of former India captain and Padmashri Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, who also celebrated his 70th birthday, on Wednesday.

The documentary, which has been produced by Savio de Noronha for Goa Doordarshan, consists of inputs from Brahmanand and his family members; and former team-mates among others.

Dr Sawant hailed the longevity with the fitness being the standout factor as he emphasised that Arjuna awardee Brahmanand, who has been playing from the age of 15 to 70 now, advised the youngsters to get inspired. The Chief Minister presented a ceremonial cake to Brahmanand to mark the sweet occasion. Renowned cartoonist Alexyz gifted Brahmanand a special caricature to express his love for the world-class goalie and one of Goa’s greatest sportspersons. He had also brought along a cartoon drawn 40 years ago.

Addressing the gathering, Brahmanand expressed happiness that Goa has done well in the sporting arena of late as he cited the medals gallore for the hosts of the last National Games. He, however, suggested to the chief minister that more competitions like a junior international event needs to be organised in the official state sport – football, as the sport needs more attention. The Taleigao-based former India captain also thanked his team-mates, saying: “Without my team-mates, I am nothing.”
