GOA GOVT PROPOSES TO MAKE NEW TOURIST VEHICLES, RENT-A-CAB & RENT-A-BIKE MANDATORILY ‘EV’ FROM JANUARY 2024

With the G20 Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting starting in Goa today, the State Government announced its endeavour to push the electric vehicles mobility to the next level.

The Government of Goa proposes that it will be made mandatory that all new tourist vehicles, ‘Rent a Cab’ and ‘Rent a Bike’ shall be EV from January, 2024. The new Government Light Motor Vehicles purchased from January 2024 will mandatorily be EV’s. It will also be mandatory for permit-holders having multiple tourist taxis, Rent a Bike and Rent a Cab operator to retrofit 30% of the fleet to EV by June, 2024.

The Govt of Goa has formulated the Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy 2021, and EV Concessional Charging Infrastructure Policy 2021 to promote #EV ecosystem in the state.

The promotion for electric mobility in the State is in line with the national policy. The Government of India has taken multiple steps to decarbonise transport, including promoting use of electric vehicles. The National Mission on Electric Mobility aims to improve charging infra, and develop a domestic manufacturing ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated Technology and Cultural Showcase organised by Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao. Power Minister, Ramakrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS, Secy. Protocol & Nodal Officer, G20, Goa, Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, and others were also present. The technology showcase features new and emerging technologies like electric vehicle, hydrogen & other clean-fuel technologies.
