Goa Guardians pulled off a remarkable turnaround to defeat the Delhi Toofans 14–16, 11–15, 15–11, 16–13, 15–11 in a five-set thriller at the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia, held at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
Prince Malik was named the Player of the Match as the Guardians climbed to fourth place on the points table with 10 points.
The opening set went down to the wire with both teams trading points in a pulsating battle.
Jesus Chourio and Muhammed Jasim struck early for Delhi, while Dushyant Singh’s super serve gave Goa a brief lead. Despite Jeffrey Menzel’s late surge, Delhi’s pairing of Anu James and Chourio closed the set 16–14.
The Toofans carried their momentum into the second set, with Carlos Berrios dominating from the wings.
Goa fought hard through Menzel’s sharp net play, but Delhi’s Saqlain Tariq kept feeding Chourio and Berrios for a 15–11 finish, putting Goa two sets behind.
The third set marked a turning point as Goa rediscovered their rhythm.
Nathaniel Dickinson’s explosive attacks and Chirag Yadav’s service pressure pushed the Guardians ahead.
Prince anchored the defense with critical blocks, sealing the set 15–11 and sparking belief on the Goa bench.
The fourth set saw Delhi pushing to close the match, but Menzel’s blistering spikes and Prince’s dominance at the net kept Goa alive.
With the crowd roaring, Prince delivered a stunning super serve at 15–13 to level the match 2–2, sending it into a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, both teams traded early blows before Aravindan’s clever setter dump caught Delhi off guard.
Prince continued his stellar form at the net, while Chirag Yadav’s thunderous super point spike sealed an unforgettable 3–2 comeback for the Guardians – their most spirited win of the season.
Goa now move to fourth place on the standings, as their semi finals hope remain on the hands of other teams.
