Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC) organised a workshop on 14th August at the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) to strengthen fire safety and emergency preparedness across industrial estates in the State. The workshop was attended by Goa-IDC’s engineering staff, the president of the Goa State Industries Association (GSIA), and Presidents of several industrial estate associations.

The workshop focused on developing a comprehensive approach to fire preparedness across industrial estates, covering three critical areas — strengthening and upgrading fire safety infrastructure, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Response Plans, and building the capacity of field staff to respond swiftly and effectively to fire-related emergencies.

Speaking on the occasion, P. Pravimal Abhishek IAS, Managing Director, Goa-IDC, emphasised that effective emergency management requires both adequate infrastructure and a well-prepared field response. He stressed the need for immediate assessment and upgradation of fire safety infrastructure across industrial estates, along with clear response protocols and appropriate training of field personnel.

“Industrial estates are home to a large number of MSMEs, and our preparedness must ensure that we are able to provide them with effective support when an emergency arises. A swift and coordinated response can significantly reduce the impact of a fire incident on lives, property and industrial operations,” he said.

Ashok Pote, Fire & Safety Consultant, National Fire Protection and Safety Engineers, served as the resource person for the workshop and made a detailed presentation on strengthening fire preparedness in industrial estates. The session covered fire safety infrastructure, preventive measures, emergency response protocols and the role of field-level personnel during fire-related incidents.

Goa-IDC will take forward the outcomes of the workshop through measures aimed at upgrading fire safety infrastructure, institutionalising emergency response protocols and strengthening the preparedness of its field teams across industrial estates in Goa.
