Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC) convened its 395th Board Meeting to deliberate on key matters aimed at strengthening Goa’s industrial ecosystem, with a particular focus on infrastructure development across various industrial estates in the state.
The meeting was held in the presence of Mauvin Godinho, Minister for Industries, Government of Goa; Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Chairman, Goa-IDC; Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary (Industries, Trade and Commerce); A. Asvin Chandru, IAS, Director (Industries, Trade and Commerce) among others.
Industries Minister, Mauvin Godinho announced that the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has launched a comprehensive outreach initiative across all industrial estates in the state to address long-pending concerns raised by industrial stakeholders. He stated that GIDC’s Managing Director, Pravimal Abhishek, has personally visited each industrial estate and held direct interactions with industrial units. “Several issues have already been resolved on the spot, while others are being actively addressed through short- and long-term measures,” the Minister said.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, the Minister revealed that infrastructure-related works worth over ₹100 crore have either been taken up or are nearing completion. These include white-topping of roads, and upgrades to water and electricity facilities—many of which are being undertaken for the first time in several estates. “The focus is not only on functional infrastructure but also on creating cleaner and healthier work environments,” he emphasised.
To tackle the growing garbage management challenge, Goa-IDC is setting up Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) across industrial estates. “Beautification is not just about aesthetics. It’s about creating an environment where people are proud to work. Earlier, garbage was strewn all over—now we are taking concrete steps with MRFs and treatment plants in both coastal and inland estates, depending on the volume of waste generated,” Minister added.
Chairman of Goa-IDC, Aleixo Reginald Lourenco announced that infrastructure works worth over ₹100 crore have been initiated across various industrial estates in the state. These include upgrades to roads, water supply systems, dust mitigation measures, and other essential civic amenities. He highlighted a pioneering initiative aimed at supporting the female workforce in industrial zones by constructing five dedicated women’s hostels. “For the first time in the history of Goa’s industrial estates, we are building hostels exclusively for working women,” Lourenco said. The hostels—two at Verna and one each at Kundaim, Madkai and Cuncolim—will each have a capacity to accommodate 120 women.
The Board approved the adoption of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for management of excavated soil within Goa-IDC industrial estates. As part of its ongoing efforts to streamline operations and ensure optimal resource management, Goa-IDC has introduced new guidelines regarding the handling of excavated soil within industrial estates.
According to the proposed policy, all excavated soil generated during development or construction activities will be considered the property of Goa-IDC. To maintain uniformity and accountability, the soil must be deposited at designated collection points identified by the Field Manager of each respective industrial estate.
Goa-IDC has been conducting IDC Connect as a strategic outreach initiative to directly engage with industrial units across the state. Building on the success of IDC Connect 2023, the IDC Connect 2024 series was carried out across all industrial estates, in collaboration with key government departments, industry associations and stakeholders. During the 2024 consultations, numerous demands and grievances were raised by industries, primarily concerning internal roads, drainage systems, utility spaces, compound walls, and the overall beautification of estates. In response to the needs raised during IDC Connect it was resolved to grant infrastructure development works across various industrial estates, with a total estimated cost of ₹49,25,04,188.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable industrial growth in Goa through proactive governance, infrastructure upgrades, and stakeholder engagement. With a clear focus on improving ease of doing business and enhancing the quality of life within industrial estates, the GIDC aims to position Goa as a model for inclusive and environmentally responsible industrial development.
