Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant presented ‘Gomant Vibhushan’ – Goa’s highest civilian honour, to Indian Classical and Devotional singer Ajit Kadkade in a festive atmosphere at the Kala Academy on Tuesday.

Born in Bicholim, Kadkade was initiated into classical music by Guru Madye at a very young age and then was moulded by Padma Shri Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki  for over 12 years. He further honed his skills under the guidance of Pt Govindprasad Jaipurwale for 3 years.

In a sterling journey of over 50 years; Kadkade’s mastery spans ragas, bhakti sangeet, natyageet, abhangs and more – delivered in Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, and Kannada.

In his acceptance address, Kadkade dedicated the award to all his teachers in the musical journey. He recounted the tremendous influence Abhisheki had on his career choice and then the progression based on the music maestro’s advice of discipline, courteous way of conducting oneself.

The Chief Minister hailed Kadkade for his tremendous contribution in enriching Goa’s culture with his incredible work across genres and countries. “His contribution is a shining example of how one can stay rooted in Goa while reaching the world. As we confer Goa’s highest civilian honour, we salute not just an artist, but a cultural ambassador who inspires generations,” emphasised Dr Sawant.
