Arunesh Hari and Ritika Chelluri won the men and women singles titles respectively, at the State Badminton Ranking Tournament for seniors, which concluded at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim, on Sunday. Organised by the Goa Badminton Association and co-hosted by the Goa Sports Club and Chicalim Badminton Club, this tournament served as one of the crucial selection tournaments for the West Zone and Nationals.
In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Arunesh Hari secured the Men’s Singles title by defeating Rahul Deswal with scores of 21-17, 21-15. Ritika Chelluri triumphed in the Women’s Singles category, overcoming Shreya Mehta in a straight-set victory of 21-16, 21-16.
The men’s doubles title was claimed by the formidable top seed duo of Arjun Fallary and Tejan Fallary, who dominated second seeds Floyd Araujo and Fredrick Fernandes with a scoreline of 21-9, 21-13. In the women’s doubles, the top-seeded pair of Lydia Barreto and Yasmin Sayed emerged victorious against Sufiya Shaikh and Tabbasum Shaikh, securing their win at 21-13, 21-9.
The mixed doubles category saw an exceptional performance by Arunesh Hari and Sufiya Shaikh, who clinched the title by defeating top seeds Tejan Fallary and Lydia Barreto in a closely contested match, ending with scores of 22-20, 21-14. Arunesh’s stellar performance throughout the tournament earned him the distinction of being double crown winner. The tournament carried a total prize purse of Rs 1.35 lakhs besides trophies.
