Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant announced that Goa will be 100 percent literate by 30th May 2025, with ‘New India Literacy Programme’ identifying the illiterates and making provision to teach them.
The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the Ullas Mela 2025 organised by the State Council of Education Research & Training (SCERT) & Directorate of Education, Goa Directorate of Education, Goa at Porvorim.
“At present, Goa is 94 percent literate and the target is to make the state 100 percent literate by the upcoming Goa Statehood Day. Our coordinators have identified the people willing to become literate. We have also provided the facility to migrants based in Goa, said the Chief Minister.
“After the people undergo the literacy programme, they will need to answer an exam with an observer from Government of India assigned to follow the guidelines,” added Dr Sawant.
Secretary (Educaion), Prasad Lolayekar,IAS, Director, Planning & Statistics & Evaluation, Vijay Saxena, Director, Education, Shailesh Zingde, Director, SCERT, Meghana Shetgaonkar, Director (Admin), SCERT, Sarita Gadgil & others were also present.
