Goa Yachting Association (GYA) is celebrating its Golden Jubilee. Established in 1973, the GYA is one of the oldest sailing associations in India. The primary aim of the association was to develop and promote sailing activities in Goa, thus making it possible for Goans from all walks of life to enjoy the natural costal wonders of the state.
The GYA is leading the way with its youth development programmes for various classes of sailboats at both competitive and recreational levels. The 37th National Games sailing event was hosted by GYA at the spectacular waterfront sailing centre facility located at Hawaii Beach at Dona Paula.
The members recently gathered to commemorate this milestone with Chief Guest and President of Yachting Association of India (YAI) Adm. K B Singh (Retd.) presiding over the dedication of the plaque in honor of Late Antonio D. Sousa’s contribution to GYA, in the form of the book launch of GYA Sailing Course, the “Helm’s Test” Manual for sailors written by Umaji Chowgule, Divya Sahasrabuddhe & Ashwin Tombat and the launch of Goa Yachting Association’s refreshed Golden jubilee logo.
Founder member and President Emeritus Cesar Menezes, along with other founder members graciously gifted the association two Seabird class sail boats.
This occasion highlighted the wonderful facilities available to members of GYA. Current President Rainer Dias hopes to further the vision of the GYA to see the development of sailing and growth of sailors through vigorous educational programs and support of people of Goa, who have a passion for sailing, stated a press release.
