GOA’S YOUNGEST GRANDMASTER LEON MENDONCA ARRIVES AFTER BEING STUCK IN EUROPE SINCE MARCH 2020

PANAJI: Goa’s chess star Leon Mendonca arrived home today after a long stay in Europe where he was stuck over the onset of Pandemic since March 2020. The 14-year-old however, made it count and achieved the Grandmaster title in a stunning show of focus and consistency under unprecedented conditions.

The youngest Goan GM landed at Dabolim airport today afternoon and said he was “very happy to be back home,” before explaining the challenging part of enduring around one and half-year period,  saying: ” It was never assured that a tournament would happen or not as the situation was very uncertain! It was a tough journey.”

Leon becomes the 67th Grandmaster of India and second GM of Goa.
