GOVT COLLEGE QUEPEM CONDUCT ANNUAL VALEDICTORY FUNCTION FOR ACHIEVERS IN SPORTS, PARESH SHINDE NAMED BEST SPORTSMAN

PANAJI: The annual sports prize distribution ceremony of Government College of Arts Science and Commerce Quepem, (GCQ) was held on 31st May 2022 at GCQ College Foyer.

The chief guest, for the function was Dr Francis Lobo, College Director of Physical Education, Rosary college Navelim. The guest of honour, was Assistant Physical Education Officer (APEO) of Quepem Taluka, John Fernandes.

The principal, Dr Joydeep Bhattacharjee lauded the discipline and determination of sportspersons and the dynamic College Director of Physical Education Dr Rajan Mathew.

GCQ conducted around 13 inter-class competitions. The overall team championship in men’s section went to Ty.B.Com class, while the Runners-up place was bagged by Sy.B.Com class. In women’s section, the overall championship was bagged by Ty.BA class, whereas the Runners-up place was bagged by Fy.BA class.

The college declared Paresh Shinde as the Best Outgoing Sportsman while the Best Outgoing Sportswoman title was shared by Mysie Mendes & Aki San Francisco.

The college honour roll for this academic year reads: 17 National representation in sports like Sqay Martial Art, Hockey, Kho Kho, Tennis Ball Cricket, Sepaktakraw, among others while around 4 of these outings brought the medals. GCQ bagged around 6 team championship, Runners up trophy in the games like Tennis men & women, Cross Country men & women & Kabaddi women, organised by respective association in collaboration with various colleges under the Aegis of Association of College Director of Physical Education Goa. (AGDOPEG).

Panisha Gurav, won gold medal in 69kg weight category whereas, Tejas Shet won silver medal in the 105kg weight category, whereas Artiksh Naik & Sahil Naik won bronze medal in their respective category, at Inter-collegiate powerlifting championship.

Moses Mascarenhas of GCQ emerged the fastest man of Goa as he bagged the gold medal in 100 m run at the Mini-State Athletics Championship organised by Sports Authority of Goa in collaboration with Goa Athletics Association.

At the Inter-Collegiate Cross Country Championship, Ankita Velip bagged the individual Championship. Chaya Patil was awarded the Best player of the tournament at the Inter-collegiate tennis championship.

GCQ football team went down in the semi -finals via tie-breaker at the inter-college football tournament held at Don Bosco College-Panaji. The volleyball & kabaddi men teams made to the quarter-finals. In last two months, around 20 inter-collegiate men & women competitions were organised by various colleges in collaboration with the association. GCQ participated in 15 of them and excelled, states a press release.
