The annual sports prize distribution ceremony of Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce Quepem, (GCQ) was held on 28th March 2024 at GCQ College Foyer.

The chief guest, for the function was Milton Fernandes, former Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports Goa University. He expressed his appreciation on the achievement of sportspersons and emphasised the need of goal-setting and dedicated effort to success.

The guest of honour, former College Director of Physical Education and Sports Fr. Agnel College Pilar; Agnelo Dias, expressed his happiness and adviced students to have a vision to be successful in life.

The principal, Dr Joydeep Bhattacharjee lauded the discipline and determination of sportspersons and the College Director of Physical Education, Dr Rajan Mathew. The prizes were then distributed at the hands of chief guest and guest of honour.

GCQ conducted around 17 inter-class competitions. The overall team championship in men’s section was awarded to FYBA class, and Runners-up position was bagged by FYBCOM class. In Women’s section, the overall championship was bagged by TYBCOM class, where as the Runners-up was bagged by SYBCOM class.

The college declared Milfort Peixote and Viresh Gaonkar as the Best Outgoing Sportsman. The Best Outgoing Sportswoman award was shared by Ankita Gaonkar & Ankita Velip. Best Outstanding Sportsperson was given to Chaya Patil whereas a special prize for good performance in last three years, was awarded to Shweta Gaonkar.

The college honour roll for this academic year reads – 13 National representation in sports like Cross Country, Mix Relay, Athletics, Bench Press, Kho-Kho, Hockey, Cricket etc. and around 3 of them resulted in medals.

GCQ bagged around 13 team championship Winners & Runners-up trophy in the games like Tennis (men), Cross Country men & women, Athletics Men and Women, Kho-Kho men & women, Cycling men, organised by respective association in collaboration with various colleges under the Aegis of Association of College Director of Physical Education Goa. (ACDOPEG).

Ankita Gaonkar created new record in Heptathlon (consists of 7 events). She broke the record which was created in 2017-18. GCQ College relay team made the college proud by creating a new record in 4×400m relay at the Goa University Athletic Meet. (Ankita Gaonkar, Ankita Velip, Siya Naik, Chaya Patil).

The Cross Country Men and Women team emerged winner. 12 Athletes representing Goa University team,  were from GCQ. They recently participated in the All-India Inter University Cross Country Championship held at Nanded (Maharashtra).

Pratiksha Velip bagged Bronze Medal in Mixed Relay Biathlete team in the modern Pentathlon in 37th National Games 2023. Siya Naik won Silver Medal the 34th West Zone Junior National Athletic Championship 2023 held at Jodhpur Rajasthan. Siya Narvekar bagged Silver Medal in the 84kg Weight Category in the National Classique Bench Press Championship held at Bangalore 2023.
