The third Gramin Sahitya Sammelan (Rural Literary Conference) will be held on 3rd and 4th December in Sattari. The event to be held at Saleli, will be inaugurated by Maharashtra’s celebrated social activist Lokshahir Sambhaji Bhagat. Goa’s veteran journalist and writer Sandesh Prabhudesai has been chosen to be the president of the conference, stated a press release.
Bhagat is a veteran writer, singer and musician and popular throughout the state as ‘People’s Singer’, especially for his ‘Constitution Concerts’ (Samvidhan Jalasa). Besides his contribution to Street Theatre and composing contemporary folk songs, Bhagat came to fame through his conception of a theatre production ‘Shivaji Underground in Bhimnagar Mohalla’ and National Award-winning feature film ‘Court’.
Prabhudesai is known for his multilingual and multimedia journalism in local, national and international journalism in print, TV and digital media. He has also authored eight books for which he has been awarded with literary awards by Goa’s premier bodies like Goa Konkani Academy and Konkani Bhasha Mandal.
The two-day event would begin with an inaugural ceremony at 4 pm at the hands of Lokhshahir Sambhaji Bhagat, followed by a keynote address by Sandesh Prabhudesai.
Dr Prakash Paryekar and Dr Prakash Vazrikar have presided over the conferences in the past. Young writer, performer and teacher Gopinath Gawas is the working president of this Rural Literary Conference while Raghunath Gaonkar from Saleli is the reception committee chairman.
