International Purple Fest Goa 2024 Day 4 saw Hemophilia Federation India’s endeavour to create awareness on the blood-related ailments.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai and President of Hemophilia Federation India (HFI) Prem Roop Alva joined forces to address the often invisible struggle of those living with Hemophilia.
The conference, a collaboration with Purple Fest- Celebrating diversity, served as a platform to not only shed light on Hemophilia but also express appreciation for the Indian government’s inclusion of the condition in the 2016 Disability Act.
Beyond Hemophilia, discussions addressed crucial issues like Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia, exploring perspectives on disability inclusion, treatment access, and rehabilitation. The proposed guidelines for integrating these conditions into official disability frameworks, were another key highlight.
President Alva praised Purple Fest’s remarkable ability to bring together individuals with diverse disabilities, praising the government’s sensitivity towards their unique needs. He praised the arrangements done for sporting events, demonstrating genuine consideration for individuals ranging from those with visual impairments to those with locomotor disabilities. He emphasised, not only placed the spotlight on disability but also made those affected feel acknowledged and valued by society.
Purple Fest, with its unwavering focus on Hemophilia and other blood disorders, served as a powerful reminder of the need for visibility and support. The conference’s success lies not only in raising awareness but also in fostering collaboration and advocating for positive change. With the government’s continued backing and initiatives like Purple Fest, the hope for a future where individuals with Hemophilia and other blood disorders are fully integrated and empowered shines ever brighter.
