The ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, successfully conducted XXVII Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting recently.
Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director of ICAR–CCARI, Goa, chaired the meeting & discussed the significant contributions of ICAR-KVK North Goa in bridging the gap between technology generation and adoption in farming communities.
Dr. Kumar emphasised the technology dissemination efforts by the KVK, which have been instrumental in promoting advanced technologies, strengthening the demo unit for natural farming and initiating a terrace gardening demon unit, and preparing a roadmap for demand-driven technologies and their fast dissemination with the use of technologies.
These efforts aim to enhance sustainable livelihoods, particularly in the context of the changing climate scenario.
Dr. S.K. Roy, Director of ICAR–ATARI, Pune, Zone VIII, acknowledged the KVK’s role in identifying critical issues faced by the farming community during the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan. He highlighted the innovations recorded during the Abhiyan, focusing on convergence with line departments, the dissemination of location-specific technology, and high-yielding salt-tolerant varieties. Dr. Roy also emphasised the importance of silage making as a sustainable alternative to meet the green fodder requirements for dairy animals, alongside efforts to foster entrepreneurship development within the farming community.
Dr. M. S. Gawankar, Associate Director of Research at the Regional Fruit Research Station, Vengurla, Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, emphasised the importance of showcasing major demonstrations on cashew, paddy, and vegetable cultivation, which are designed to enhance productivity and profitability, aligning with the broader goals of improving agricultural output and sustainability.
Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK North Goa, welcomed all delegates and progressive farmers, presented the Action Taken Report of the previous SAC meeting, and outlined the Action Plan for 2025. Dr. Udharwar S. V., SMS (Animal Science), Mr. Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), and Mrs. Nivya K. R., SMS (Floriculture and Landscaping), presented the achievements for 2024-25, along with the proposed action plans for 2025-26, in their respective disciplines.
In this meeting, officials from the line department, including NABARD, ATMA North Goa, the Fisheries Department, scientists from KVK South Goa, and progressive farmers who are SAC members of KVK North Goa (representatives of the farming community), were present.
The deliberations were constructive, resulting in actionable suggestions for enhancing KVK’s outreach and program impact.
