PANAJI: Jeyachandra Hashmi’s ‘Sweet Biryani’ portrays the trials and tribulations of a food-delivery worker.

Here at the 52nd IFFI as a part of the non-feature films section in the Indian Panorama, the Tamil film gives a message to the society about being humble to the delivery workers in particular and feeling blessed to have food on your plate.

“Here in India for many having luxurious food daily, is a basic thing; but for many, having food itself is a luxury. I wanted to bring these two contrasts into focus using the character in the film, travelling all the day with food packages in his bike. He meets a family who are moving with hunger, but he cannot help them as it is not in his hands. That’s the crux of the story. We didn’t try to give any solution for these issues! I believe creators are not judges, they should just address the issue. I think this film will disturb those comfortable people who get comfort through caste, class and few other authoritative things,” said director Jeyachandra Hashmi.

Jeyachandra also appealed to people to spare a thought for the delivery persons welfare. He also revealed that he had learnt a lesson in the process of making this film. “I have learnt to stay calm when my food arrives late,” he added.
