The Goa Jazz Academy’s celebrations of the International Jazz Day held at the Aguada port and jail location on Saturday, April 29 was quite literally, jazz by the sea.
Even as the sound of the saxophones, bass guitars and drums rent the air in this open-air location and inter-mingled with the tasty aroma of pasta, pizzas and burgers, not to forget the myriad types of drinks in the many food stalls at the venue, this location was emerging as possibly, one of the best outdoor locations for music and food in all of Goa.
The evening began with a presentation of studious jazz by the students and faculty of the Goa Jazz Academy, followed by some eclectic jazz by the Karan Khosla quartet, with two Dutch musicians lending their mite to the mix. The piece de resistance was undeniably, the outstanding saxophone play by Dutchman, Ben Van Dungen who had jazz fans eating out of his palms, even as his talented quartet mesmerised everyone with sublime jazz.
A visibly-elated Divya Gupta, co-founder, Goa Jazz Academy, said: “We were very excited to host this event in association with UNESCO at the beautiful Aguad Goa location. A lot of hard work went into organising this event. Some special performances from our talented students and faculty was very much appreciated. The response from jazz fans was overwhelming.”
