INTERNATIONAL PURPLE FEST ASSESSMENT CAMP EMPOWERS LIVES OF OVER 1000 PwDs IN GOA

In an effort to enhance accessibility and support for persons with disabilities, the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities organised an assessment camp during the International Purple Fest in Goa. Over the past month, this initiative has positively impacted more than 1000 individuals who have benefitted from the initiative, states a press release.

The pinnacle of this endeavour took place yesterday at the Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendra (PMDKs), a permanent centre established during the International Purple Fest. This centre, now operational at Goa Medical College, provides an array of aids and appliances free of charge, including wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids.

The distribution ceremony marked the culmination of this noble effort, witnessing the delivery of various essential equipment to the beneficiaries. Among those present to facilitate the handover were the Minister for Social Welfare, Subhash Phal Dessai, MLA Rodolfo Fernandes from Santa Cruz, Director of Social Welfare Ajit Panchwadkar, and Goa State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar.

Chief Minister, Dr.Pramod Sawant and Minister for Social Welfare, Subhash Phal Dessai closely monitor the functioning of this centre. The Directorate of Social Welfare, under the leadership of Director Ajit Panchwadkar, has also played a crucial role in ensuring that this center runs smoothly.

Guruprasad Pawaskar, Goa State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in Goa, recently announced a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to support individuals with disabilities. He highlighted that over the past two months, the government has distributed aids and appliances worth Rs. 50 lakhs under the Assistance for Disabled Persons for purchasing/fitting of aids/appliances (ADIP) scheme.

Pawaskar emphasised the tangible benefits that this distribution has brought to persons with disabilities across the region. These aids and appliances play a vital role in improving their quality of life and enhancing their ability to engage in daily activities with greater independence and dignity. Through the ADIP scheme, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to serving and empowering individuals with disabilities, ensuring their inclusion and well-being in society.
