IT, ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION DEPT PROVIDES LAPTOPS TO MERITORIOUS STUDENTS FROM ST & SC COMMUNITIES

The Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Government of Goa; provided free laptops to top 10 meritorious students (5 girls and 5 boys) belonging to Schedule Tribe (ST) & Schedule Caste (SC) communities and 10 meritorious students (5 boys and 5 girls) belonging to Schedule Caste (SC) Communities of Class X(Tenth) from each of the talukas in Goa in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant; Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Printing and Stationery, Rohan A. Khaunte.

Director of Tribal Welfare Dashrath M. Redkar; Director of Social Welfare, Ajit Panchwadkar; Director of ITE&C Department Yashaswini B., IAS; MD of Info Tech Corporation of Goa, Praveen Volvolkar were also present.

These laptops were provided to students who had excelled in their Class X examinations in the considered academic year of 2022-23. The objective of this scheme is two-fold, one of which is to promote Information Technology/Digital Skills among students from Schedule Tribe (ST) and Schedule Caste (SC) Communities; and the other to encourage students from Schedule Tribe (ST) and Schedule Caste (SC) Communities to pursue higher education in the field of Information Technology.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, emphasising the government’s focus on career development, stated: “Our government is committed to providing essential infrastructure like laptops to nurture a skilled workforce. We prioritise skilling, upskilling, and re-skilling initiatives, along with enhancing the quality of education by deploying competent teachers equipped for digital learning environments in schools.

“Additionally, we support students by providing laptops to aid their educational journey. Aligned with the vision of our honorable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi ji’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, we are dedicated to advancing India and fostering personal growth. Goa boasts top-tier educational institutions across various disciplines. Furthermore, to facilitate access to foreign education, we’ve introduced the ‘Economical Weaker Section Scheme’ under the Manohar Scheme Yojan, offering provisions of up to 35 lakhs annually without interest for students in the General category.”

Highlighting the significance, Khaunte stated “It’s fundamental to recognise the transformative potential of laptops in our collective progress. Let’s propel the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Goa’ by actively contributing to our nation and proving our worth. By providing laptops, we bridge the digital gap and helping you all succeed in the realm of Information Technology.”
