LET’S FOOTBALL: ARTIFICIAL TURF LAID AT DSYA’S ST CRUZ VILLAGE GROUND

ST CRUZ: Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs’ village school playground at St Cruz, looks a beauty with the newly-laid artificial turf. The sight of the green turf will wet the appetite of football lovers from Tiswadi taluka as the ground will now cater to high-level action, even in the monsoon season. With major works completed, the ground could be ready to stage football matches in a month’s time.

The natural grass field was opened in 2005, but had suffered major damage over a period of time due to lack of maintenance. In such conditions, it was deemed unsuitable to divisional football matches. However, after a long gap now, the local people will be warming up to the refreshing possibility of watching their favourite players in inter-village tournaments or even in state league matches as former Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa, V M Prabhudesai had assured that FIFA-preferred world class quality artificial turf for the said ground.
