‘MASHAAL’ RELAY WILL UNITE US, KATYA COELHO; IT’S A DREAM OCCASION: ANURA PRABHUDESAI

‘Mashaal’ Relay also referred to as the customary symbolic torch relay,  for the 37th National Games – commenced on Saturday as Goa gets ready to host the much-delayed prestigious multi-sport extravaganza from October 25 to November 9. The torch relay started at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, and moved along the Panaji city into St Cruz village before concluding for the day at Bambolim Athletic Stadium.

Sports Minister Govind Gaude, who launched the Mashaal relay, stressed that the whole idea of hosting the Games is to create a sports legacy for Goa. “We want to see our players excel at the National and international level. As the torch relay begins, the Games fever will reach a higher pitch. We also plan similar torch relay around the Games venues across the state,” stated Gaude, who added that prominent Metros like New Delhi and Mumbai will also host Mashaal Relay ahead of the 37th National Games.

Katya Coelho, India’s top IQ Foiler, said: “It is an honour to be here. It is every athletes’ dream to run with the torch. This is for the State because they have supported me throughout. As true sportsmanship, this is one of the main things…today, in National Games, to be united and unite all of us (sic).”

International badminton player Anura Prabhudesai shared her excitement, saying: “It is dream (moment) as I get to run with the 37th National Games Goa torch. I am looking forward to the Games and hope to perform well.”
Probables of Goa contingent for the Games, other athletes, students participated in large numbers all along.
