PANAJI: Santa Cruz-based National Association for the Blind (NAB), Goa State Branch, held its Diwali celebratory-ceremony with great fervour and pomp at the NAB premises on Wednesday (27th October).
Prakash Kamat, Senior Journalist and Member of Goa State Advisory Board on Disability, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Kamat enlightened the gathering about the RPWD act, empowerment and employment of the visually-impaired.
A short yet entertaining cultural programme was put up by the NAB students. Two of the NAB students, Akshay Bhangle and Sumera Khan, were felicitated at the hands of Kamat for securing 78 percent and 87 percent respectively at their TYBA examination.
‘Light Towards Independence’, (Tips for Visually-Impaired Trainers) a book written by Leena Prabhu, Senior teacher at NAB, was released by NAB President, Rozendo Mendonsa in the presence of the NAB Committee.
Sunetra Jog handed over a book named ‘Sainik’ – originally written by Anuradha Prabhudesai and which Jog had translated into Konkani Braille, for the visually-impaired; to the President of NAB.
The function was attended by NAB Council, parents and students. President of NAB, Mendonsa welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. The programme was compered by Akshay Bhangle.
