OVER 1500 TRIBAL SPORTSPERSONS TO BATTLE FOR SUPREMACY, 3.5L PRIZEMONEY AT 8TH ALL GOA TRIBAL SPORTS FESTIVAL

PONDA: A total of 1776 players from across all 12 talukas of Goa, will engage in a fight for supremacy at the 8th all-Goa Tribal Sports Festival to be organised by Sports Authority of Goa on Thursday and Friday at Ponda sports complex and Shiroda-Karai ground. A total prize money of Rs 3,55,000 including cash for winners, runners-up and individual prizes, will be up for grabs.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will be the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony at Ponda sports complex at 10.30am. Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, and Sports Minister Govind Gaude will be the guests of honour. Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar and Prakash Velip, Goa State Marketing and Agriculture Board chairman, will be the special invitees.

Sports Minister Gaude monitored the completion of the preparations at the festival venue and thus ensured that the infrastructure and other arrangements will be top class for the players to focus and deliver their best performances.

The state-level tribal sports festival will host seven disciplines, namely -Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Tennis ball cricket, Lagori, Langadi and Tug of War. The total participation of 2435 will consist 659 technical officials.

Meanwhile, seven tribal sportspersons will be felicitated during the Tribal Sports Festival 2023 for their inspirational achievements in various sports disciplines. The players are Rowlin Borges (football), Ankita Gaude (baseball), Deepak Gaonkar (kho-kho), Deepesh Jalmi (mallakhamb), Nitin Sawant (volleyball), Sarvesh Gaude (tennis ball cricket) and Sahish M. Gaude (kabaddi).
