PANAJI: Paarth Salvi (Elo Rating 1354), a student of Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School-Porvorim, won the first edition of late Dattaram Dhuri (Freedom Fighter) All-Bardez Taluka Open Rapid Chess Tournament.
The tournament was organised by Bardez Taluka Chess Association and Lions Club of Thivim at Tulsiram Hall, Morod-Mapusa on Sunday.
Paarth Salvi received a prize of Rs 3000 and a trophy. Mandar Pradip Lad (Elo Rating 1461 of Mapusa) finished in the second place and received a prize of Rs 2000 and a trophy. Paarth and Mandar scored an equal tally of 7.5 points each from 8 rounds. However, Paarth was declared champion due to his higher Buchholz Tie-break score of 39.5 as against 39 of Mandar. Yash Prabhu (Elo Rating 1271) of Porvorim took the third place. He received a prize of Rs. 1500 and a trophy, stated a press release.
A total of 80 players participated in the tournament which included 16 FIDE Elo-Rated players.

Special Prize: Veer Bhobe & Jeet Gaonkar.
