PANAJI DANCES TO CARNAVAL BEATS AS FESTIVE CELEBRATION UNFOLDS

The colorful and lively celebration of Carnaval 2024 began in Panaji on Saturday. 63 floats paraded great enthusiasm and fervour after Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant flagged the iconic people’s festival. Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, MLA of Taleigao – Jennifer Monserrate were also present among other dignitaries. The event drew crowds of locals and tourists alike, eager to partake in the festivities.

As the iconic figure of King Momo declared the commencement of the festival with his jovial decree to “Eat, Drink & Make Merry but Responsibly,” the streets of Panaji came alive with vibrant floats, music, and dance performances.

Dr. Pramod Sawant, commended the energy and dedication of the performers and participants, noting the pride with which Goan culture and heritage were showcased. He expressed confidence in the festivities continuing for the next three days, uniting people in joy and celebration. “This year, the dedication and enthusiasm displayed by the dancers, performers, and participants in the float parade have been truly commendable. From the meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of the parade to the proud showcasing of our rich culture and heritage, it is evident that countless hours of effort have gone into making this celebration a resounding success. With the collective energy and spirit of hundreds gathered here today, I am confident that we will sustain this vibrant atmosphere of joy and enjoyment throughout the remaining three days of festivities.”

Rohan A. Khaunte expressed his excitement for Carnaval, highlighting the event’s significance. He emphasised the importance of responsible enjoyment, echoing King Momo’s decree. “Carnaval has long been eagerly anticipated, celebrated for its grand parade, captivating performances. Once again, the float parades dazzle with vibrant colors, symbolizing not only the festivities of the present but also heralding Goa’s promising future under the innovative approach of Regenerative Tourism championed by Goa Tourism. As King Momo decrees, let us revel responsibly, embodying the spirit of enjoyment while preserving the essence of our beloved Goa.”
