PANAJI: After a ten-year run in Socorro, Bardez, the ‘Patoiachem Fest’ curated by Goencho Festakar Marius Fernandes, has found a new home at Peaceful Society, Madkai in Antruj taluka (Ponda) in central Goa; states a press release.
The Patoiachem Fest will be diverse, inclusive, accessible and an attempt would be made to make it a zero-waste event. The festival will begin at 11 o’ clock with a talk about our 75 years of Independence by our host Kumar Kalanand Mani and his wife Bharati Bandodkar. It will be followed by a workshop of making eco-friendly brooms, leaf plates, dung cakes, local medicines, weaving of coconut leaves, etc. Dr. Gwendolyn De Ornelas will be in conversation with one of the founders World Goa Day Marius Fernandes about his role of launching it in the year 2000 at the St Mathias Bonderam, Divar island.
The local villagers of Madkai will be having a Patoieo/ Pudde workshop. To celebrate Konkani Day which is on 20th of August, the Pilerne Theatre Group will be staging a Konkani skit directed by Edmer Barreto at the fest. A community lunch (Goenchem Jevonn) will be served by skilled homecooks serving authentic Goan cuisine like Ukdo Rice, Choneacho ros,Taaikilyachi , Kuddukechi Sukhi bhaji, Tero patal bhaji, Star fruit pickle and Methiechi pezz, a heritage dessert.
A grassroots cultural programme will reverberate with the sounds of the ‘State Instrument of Goa’ the Ghumot along with a Ghumot workshop for women and a performance thereafter. A cultural troupe from Priol will be performing Divli Dance (Lamp Dance), fugddi and local art forms. This festival aims to showcase Goa’s amazing culture, heritage, music, food, art, etc according to Prakash Kamat, Senior Journalist and Advisor for the festival. All are welcome to the fest that celebrates Goa as always – sans chief guest, sponsors, alcohol, competition, prizes; but expect some wonderful surprises.
